I just wrapped up the end Les Mills Pump/Combat Hybrid and I feel fantastic! I am loving the workouts and still after every Combat workout my body is sore. I can feel it the most in my shoulders and upper back. I admit though that the workouts are addictive.
My food choices were ok this week. Could they of been better? Yes they could and this coming week they will be a lot better. No idea why I always have the urge to sabotage my workouts with bad food choices. I am not doing all this alone but am also part of a Clean Eating Challenge Group and although I avoid the majority of the list that has been presented this week. My only hard part is going to be with fake sugar. I don't consume that except on Tuesday's when I have a meal bar on the go. Time to head out today to pick up what I need to make my own protein bars which are much healthier anyway.

Friday seems to come way too quick!
Sunday makes three weeks completed with cleaning up my diet and I can tell a world of difference in how I feel. I am more focused on my work, my day is much more productive and I my workouts are going better than ever. When I was picking junk food over the healthier alternatives my workouts were lacking and I was feeling very sluggish by the end of the day.

Blood Profile Results Are In
Last week I shared with everyone that I was heading to get a blood profile done. In May of last year was when I had my last one done and my potassium was high, cholesterol was flagged and triglycerides were up a little, and my iron was too low. At this time the only exercise I was doing was walking but my diet wasn't all that bad. Also at this point I was give heart meds in April 2012, had been on blood pressure meds for a few months and prior to that was even on anti-depressants. All this was a wake up call for me and that's when I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle not only for myself but for my children.
When I started walking my weight was at it's highest of 163. This was a lot for me since I am only 5'5. When I got super serious about my weight mid-August (so about a year ago) my weight was going between 147-149.

Day 10 of making cleaner food choices
This morning it hit me that I am currently on day 10 of eating cleaner and I feel AMAZING! It has been said that takes 21 days to create a habit and I believe this because at one point my diet was pretty healthy and then as I got lazy with prepping my food ahead of time, I noticed that I started falling into old habits. I never want to go back to those old habits again which is why I set this challenge to start cleaning up my diet.
My original goal was for two weeks which I am almost there. My workouts are going much better and I am even more focused on my work and home life. It's amazing how cleaning up the foods we use to fuel our body can completely change our outlook on things in general. With that being said, I have decided to stick to it and do it for 21 days. I mean after all, I just said that it takes 21 days to create a habit... right?
With my food choices I pretty much avoid all processed foods. I have done this for some time now and when I started falling off the wagon with the lack of food prep, I caught myself reaching for quick and easy and we all know that means processed. Luckily I was able to wake up and catch it before it got too ugly, because I know where that road leads. Over the past couple of months I have proven to be the queen of cancelling out my workouts.
I don't think twice about pushing play and starting my workout. I actually look forward to it daily. The bad part is when I would grab the processed foods and was pretty much just working out for health since none of my hard work was going to shine through. In the end it comes down to the foods we choose to eat. You can train hard, but if you don't look at your nutrition then you aren't going to see the results you are wanting. I think this is something that so many people struggle with and something that can easily get us discourage.
If you are working out hard and not getting the results you are wanting, then look at your nutrition. Once you clean up your eating and still not getting the results then usually it means it's time to switch up your routine just a tad.

One week down (almost)
Last week I kicked off a two week challenge for clean"er" eating. The goal is to clean up my food choices since I have let them slip big time over the past couple of months. I know that a cleaner diet makes me feel 100% better both mentally and physically, but for some reason it's so easy to slip back into unhealthy ways.
Last week started off really great and I cleaned it up a ton. Started feeling tons better by the end of the week and started to notice that I was able to get things done more efficiently. Here are a few food pictures from last week:
I do prep my salads ahead of time for at least a couple of days in advance and it varies as to what goes in them. I put napa, bok choy, or red cabbage in them. Wax beans, black beans, quinoa, chicken, onions. You name it and chances are it has landed in my salad. Being creative and making it as nutritious as possible is my goal. Now I am not one that wants to eat salads year round, but during the heat of summer this is the perfect meal choice for me and the fact that it's easy to go light or bulk it up makes meal plans easy as well.
I generally have Shakeology tossed into my day at some point. Some days it's breakfast, some lunch or dinner and some days it makes a quick and tasty snack. For the most part though, I time it to where I have it after my workout.
As for my workouts this week, I did my Les Mills Pump. It's my all time favorite workout and just recently I upgraded it to the deluxe version. So with the upgrade I have opted to do the four week calendar that is in the book. My week looked like this with the Les Mills Pump and calories burned!
Monday:
Les Mills Pump Sports Attack: 30 Minutes and burned 335 Calories
Tuesday:
Les Mills Pump Step: 30 Minutes and burned 342 Calories
Wednesday:
Les Mills Pump Pump and Shred: 45 Minutes and burned 310 Calories
Thursday:
Les Mills Combat: 45 Minutes and burned 440 Calories
Friday:
Les Mills Pump Extreme: 60 Minutes and burned 440 Calories
Saturday I'm not going to count. We did go hiking, but I didn't wear my heart rate monitor and it was at slower speeds due to being out and going on adventures with kids. Running through the woods hunting for pretend animals and hiking to study natures to me is just fun and not something I would normally count as an exercise eventhough calories are obviously burned.
Now as you all know everyone is going to have a different calorie burn depending on your fitness level, age, and weight. I always wear my heart rate monitor and I use this as a way to gauge my workouts. For example, I know that it's almost time to add heavier weights to my Pump and Shred and Extreme. Adding the additional weights gives me a better workout and I burn more calories in the end.
If you noticed in my title I said one week down ALMOST. The reason for the almost is that life happens. My six year old has his annual cub scout camping trip and they provide meals. So Friday night I ate what they prepared there and did the same for Saturday morning. I opted to skip the lunch on Saturday since it was about time for us to head home and knew that I could just grab a healthier meal here.
Back on track and ready to tackle another week!
Here are pictures from the end of the week. Nothing fancy at all, we actually had just walked in from swimming all day and thought I better snap some pictures since I hadn't done any progress ones in awhile. If anyone is wondering I am currently 135.

Don't just rely on the scale
So many people focus on the scale as a way to see progress when they are working towards their goal of a healthy lifestyle and sadly the numbers on the scale can disappoint and discourage way too easy. The other day I did a weigh in since I was starting my two week challenge of clean"er" eating and also did progress pictures since it was the first of the month.
After taking the pictures and seeing the number on the scale, I remembered around mid-November 2012 I weighed less but wore a bigger size. So I pulled up those old pictures and put them side by side with the ones that I took the other day. While I obviously still have a way to go, I am still very pleased with how far I have come. In the November pictures I had actually just finished my very first round of Chalean Extreme (the program that really encouraged me to get healthy).
Here is the pictures that I am referring to:

I now wear two sizes smaller than in the 132 pictures, but have more muscle.
All in all what I'm getting at, is don't rely on the scale alone. The scale can be very evil at times and can discourage quickly! I not only take measurements but progress pictures as well. Seeing how far you have come in pictures and measurements are both encouraging and an awesome way to stay on track!

Challenging myself to two weeks of cleaner eating!!
As They Grow Up was provided a sample to help facilitate this post. The post may contain affiliate links.
It has been almost a year that I have been on the journey to better healthy. I really started getting serious around Sept. 1 of 2012. It hasn't been an easy journey and I have hit obstacles but what a learning

| Yesterday's meals! |
When I originally started out I was at my heaviest weight 162. I had never been that heavy in my life and my health wasn't that great. At the age of 36 i really didn't feel I needed to be anti-depressants, heart medication, high-blood pressure medication and honestly the list could go on and on. I was so drained and tired all the time that I wasn't enjoying my kids the way I wanted and I felt so insecure and uncomfortable in just regular clothes. I knew it was time for a change. I wanted to have the energy that I once had and be able to enjoy life and be able to toss all the medication out the window.
I had tried so many things in the past and was determined to not go down that route again. I joined MyFitnessPals.com first off and started tracking my foods. It is AMAZING how many or how little calories you can eat and not even be aware of it. This was one tool that has completely kept me on track and the fact that it's FREE and I can download a free app on my phone as well..you just can't go wrong. Anyone that wants to add me on there is more than welcome. My username is AsTheyGrowUp. I admit that I have gotten very lazy about tracking my foods over the past few months and I am paying for it. My choices aren't as great and I have no idea if I am getting too many calories or too few. All I know is that I have continued to workout and my weight or inches aren't budging. It's time to get serious again and this is the first place I start!

Being that I am the type of person that has to have a schedule in order to stick to something I then decided on LMP and well the list could go on. I won't bore you with all the details and programs I have completely

| Teaching kids to lead an active lifestyle is so important! |
Since around May of this year I have completely fallen off the wagon. I still work out daily and just recently changed up my routine a tad and my body sure can tell it. The soreness is there. But here I am busting my butt with working out to only cancel out all my hard work with bad food choices. It's frustrating and I'm not seeing any positive changes in my body. Starting this week I am going to be doing a clean"er" eating challenge for two weeks. I have no plans on stopping once I get started, but I prefer to say two weeks at a time and do baby steps. To set longer goals can at times result in failure.
At the end of the week I will update everyone on how things have went and put a few pictures up of my food choices for the week. I'm hoping that cleaning up my diet will start to keep cravings at bay again!!
Stay tuned!!

Gone For A RUN Running Gear and Accessories
I posted the other day about my new found love of running. Although I am just a beginner the one thing I quickly learned is proper running gear is very important. I have a good pair of running shoes and have started a little collection of pants, capris and shorts that I wear only on runs. My problem is, I don't have enough tops that I am comfortable in. I don't do anything sleeveless because I despise my arms and regular cotton tees make me very hot and sweaty prematurely while running. There are a couple of sports stores in my town but I have found them to be pricy and therefore turned to the internet to find the best deals. This is where I was introduced to Gone For A RUN and let me just say, I had absolutely no idea there was that much different STUFF for running!
Gone For A RUN was created for runners by runners. The company is dedicated to celebrating the great sport of running with unique clothing and gifts geared specifically towards runners. They offer a wide range of clothing from basic tees, silk ties and even flip flops. Gone For A RUN also offers medal hangers and bibFOLIOS to proudly display your achievements. Even the youngest of supporters and future runners can enjoy a nice selection of bibs, tees, hats and accessories. If you are looking for a unique gift for that special runner in your life then why not check out Gone For A RUN's full line of jewelry or a nice gift basket? Here are a couple of favorites:

I recently got the opportunity to work with Gone For A RUN on an awesome review. I knew from the get-go I was interested in trying out a tee shirt but it was hard to settle on just one particular design. I ended up picking the One Bad Mother Runner tee and absolutely love it. This shirt is bright and bold and has landed me several comments when I have worn it. Here I am wearing the shirt (please excuse the funny look as the sun was majorly in my eyes):

Ellie Workout Clothes
I have been wearing Ellie workout clothes for several months now and have to say that I am in love with them. They are super comfortable and wash up extremely well. My only complain is that that I wish the sports tops had just a little more support. They work great for me, but I honestly don't think they would be a stand alone support for some. I will say though that Ellie mixes essential fashion-forward looks with high-tech performance activewear for the most stylish fitness experience you’ve ever had! The piece that I have tried from Ellie, I not only wear them for working out but am guilty for wearing them while running daily errands as well. The versatility is just really hard to beat.
These shorts from Ellie are AMAZING! They do have a liner in them and are definetely my go to shorts for taking a job, lifting or running errands. The sports bra is great but I do wish that it offered just a little more support, but all in all a great product.

Les Mills Pump Review
First off, let me start by saying that this has to be one of my all time favorite workouts! I love that it never gets easy. When I see it's getting easy for me, I just simply up the weights and the challenge is back. This is an awesome program for all fitness levels as you can start out with no weights at all on the bar and gradually build up as you go.Les Mills Pump was the second completed program I have done. I started this particular workout right after wrapping up Chalean Extreme. While I love Chalean Extreme, I wanted something that added a tad more cardio per workout and one that would allow me to burn more calories since I still have a higher percentage of body fat. This program did just that and I slimmed down in a few of my problem areas.
I didn't get the calories burned for Les Mills Pump since by the time I bought my heart rate monitor I was already at the end of my second month. I do plan on going back through this program again and when I do I will be sure to update how many calories per workout I burn. This will vary per person based on age, weight and fitness levels. Here is what I burned for three of the workouts:
- Les Mills Pump Revolution: 55 min. workout 464 calories burned
- Les Mills Pump Extreme: 60 Min. workout 514 calories burned
- Les Mills Pump Ab Extreme: 20 min workout 60 calories burned
I am happy over all with my results but know that if I would kept my eating on target that they would had been much better. To be fair, I did two months of Les Mills Pump during the holiday season (Nov. and Dec.) and did not eat as well as I should. As we all know, diet is 80% when it comes to getting results. Here are my before and after for this particular program:
So what is Les Mills Pump?
It's the at-home version of BodyPump, the extremely popular gym classes created my Les Mills International. This class is taught in 80 countries around the world! The barbell-based rapid weight loss and accelerated strength-training program helps you reshape your entire body using light-to-moderate weights with higher repetitions. With three barbell workouts per week, Les Mills Pump can help anyone burn fat and calories and get lean, strong, and toned without bulking up.
Why is Les Mills Pump Effective? This is a question that I have been asked numerous times so I did my homework on it in order to be able to answer this. It's all about The Rep Effect. Unlike traditional strength workouts that feature heavy weights that help you bulk up, Les Mills Pump uses light-to-moderate weights at a higher rate or reps. The Rep Effect pushes your muscles to fatigue by changing the tempo, position and speed of the movements. Working out this way also helps boost your heart rate so you burn more calories. Let's just say that by the end of each workout, my muscles were screaming. This program really helped me with endurance and now it's amazing what I can push through. I was determined to complete all the reps that they did.
How does it work?
In a typical Les Mills Pump workout, you fatigue your muscles by doing 70-100 reps per body part. That's about 4 times more reps than in a standard gym workout.
Training with The Rep Effect helps you:
- Break down more fat reserves
- Target more muscle fibers
- Burn more calories than you would with traditional weight training, so you can achieve meaningful fat loss
- Build strength without building bulk.
Here is a little video of Les Mills Pump for anyone that is curious.
What comes with the base kit?
You get 7 workouts and those are:
- Pump Challenge: Start firing your muscles with fundamental resistance exercise (20 min workout)
- Pump and Burn: Feel the burn with compound moves that work several muscles at once. (30 min. workout)
- Pump and Shred: Start shredding while you build endurance and churn through fat stores (45 Min.)
- Pump Revolution: Drive your heart rate up with quick tempos and big moves like power presses and power lunges. (55 min.)
- Pump Extreme: Weights won't be the only thing lifted here as you focus on intensity and targeted muscles. (55 min)
- Flow: Increase flexibility, decrease soreness and improve alignment (20 min.)
- Hard-Core Abs: Carve out your core and define your back with moves that hit your muscles from every direction (20 min.)
- Pump Basics: Learn how to assemble your barbell, adjust your weights and get proper grip and stance techniques to get the most out of your workout (10 min.)
Also included in the basic Les Mills Pump workout:

My Take on Chalean Extreme
With many people looking to get in better shape with the New Year as well as with summer months just around the corner, I thought I would highlight some of the programs that I have done as well as show my progress that I made.
As I have mentioned, I did start trying to drop weight at the end of 2011. It was a very, very slow process for me and once warm weather hit in 2012, I started walking. Over time I built up speed and then decided to hit the gym. During the summer of 2012 I was going to the
gym between 3-5 times a week. I would start with a 20 min. bike ride and then wrap up on the weight machines. This helped me a little but I wasn't seeing the results that I truly wanted to see, so at the end of August I decided to give Chalean Extreme a try. I have always loved lifting weights and will be the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of cardio. I do it, but I don't love it and when I have a program that is mainly cardio I tend to get bored with it really quick
So what is Chalean Extreme for those that are wondering?Chalean Extreme is a body-sculpting program designed to help you lose up to 60% of your body fat in just three months, and see visible results every 30 days. It uses resistance training to increase lean muscle mass, which has been proven to burn calories and raise your metabolism.
The program is broke down into three phases which I think was one reason I never got bored. I loved that every month was a completely different workout routine with new challenges. I started out out the BURN Phase with 3,5, and 10 pound weights. Once I went into the PUSH phase I decided I wanted to give it all I could and purchased some BowFlex Select Tech weights. This isn't something you have to do but it's a great option. If all you have is 10 pound weights, then she shows you how to make those feel even heavier you still get a great workout in the end.
How does Chalene’s Lean Phasing technique work?
The 15 extreme workouts are broken into 3 phases, so you keep progressing as you build strength and endurance.
- PHASE 1: BURN Start lifting weights to jump-start your metabolism
- PHASE 2: PUSH Learn how to lift heavy to build the muscle and burn more fat
- PHASE 3: LEAN Once you've built a foundation, Chalene brings it home with new routines and dynamic moves that melt the fat away
Each phase also includes Extreme Cardio where Chalene ignites your metabolism further with super-intense cardio and strength-training routines, then rejuvenates and lengthens your muscles with an invigorating flexibility workout! It doesn't end there though! You also get Core Power which is targeted ab routines that let you tighten and tone your abs for a rock-hard midsection.
My Results:
I ended up dropping 6 pounds total, but I feel had I kept my diet in check through the entire program that the weight loss would of been a little higher. I also lost 10" overall. This program did help make me a lot stronger and helped to really firm me up. This is a program that is fantastic for beginners and advanced. For a beginner you can start out with lower weights, but for someone that has lifted for awhile, there is no reason not to start out with higher weights. I plan to circle back around and do this program again very soon!
Here are my before and after. The first shot in each pose in my before and second shot is after.
What I thought about the program:
I personally loved the program as a whole. I was never bored with the program and always felt a challenge which made me strive harder to succeed. I loved that the workouts aren't long which makes is very easy to fit in when the kids are sleeping or awake. Also, Chalene offers amazing motivation which really does keep you pushing play every day.
Was it worth the price:
It was totally worth the price to me because I was able to get a great workout in without leaving my home. Sure we have a gym here and as I mentioned above I did go during the summer. However, for my kids to be able to go to the nursey (which is an additional expense) I have to also pay for a family membership which isn't cheap and with me the only one using it actual equipment, I just can't justify the expense.
Did I use Shakeology through this program:
I did not use Shakeology through this program. I do drink Shakeology but I drink it for the health benefits that it offers me. Do I feel you can get great results with Beachbody programs without the use of Shakeology? I feel if you work the program and give it your all and are confident that you can keep a clean diet, then yes you sure can succeed in any program!
Would I recommend Shakeology:
Yes, i personally would recommend it because I have experienced first hand all the great health benefits it offers. Whether you use it as a meal replacement or a snack, Shakeology will fuel your extreme workouts with natural energy and feed your muscles the nutrition they need for a healthy recovery. Also, for me it gives me stronger hair and nails and much more.

Shakeology and Eating Healthy
With swimsuit weather just around the corner, how many of you have already started pulling out the dreaded bathing suit? I know it's not something that I have looked forward to in the past but during this past year I have made some healthy lifestyle changes and oddly enough having to pull out that swimsuit isn't something I am dreading. With exercise and healthy eating I am on my way to a happy, healthier me. I'm not saying I look amazing in a swimsuit, what I'm saying is that for once in my life I feel comfortable in my body because I know that I am making changes that in turn will help me be a better version of me.
Starting on March 8, I'm teaming up with a friend of mine and we are going to be hosting another Cleaner Eating Challenge. The Challenge is focused for 7 days, but we are hoping you will want to stick around for a full 30 days so that you can create a habit of exercise and healthy eating. After all, we know that it takes approximately 21 days to create a habit. I have participated in the challenge in the past and it really helps me clean up my bad habits when they start to slip. Also, with this challenge I will be participating. What fun would it be to just host, right? I love a good challenge and it's always a great one.
What is involved?
This will be a private group on Facebook and unlike my currently accountability group this challenge does require you to drink Shakeology once a day and to workout. I do ask that you check in daily as a way to keep motivated and a way to motivate the ones around you. You are welcome to post motivational quotes, healthy recipes, current struggles or just to say how great you are doing!
You can choose to use a current workout program and purchase Shakeology or grab a challenge pack for a great price!

I personally will be starting this challenge with P90X. I am getting ready to kick off my second month in the program and this challenge will a great way for me to become more focused on my nutrition which has been very slack lately! I really want to give this program all that I have and while I am with my workouts, my eating just isn't the best. I know I am capable of doing much better. Also, Hip Hop Abs which is currently on sale (you can find more information HERE) would be a great one as well if you are a fan of dance workouts. I just recently purchased this program at the sale price and wait to check it out!
Also, if you have been debating on trying Shakeology for the first time, now is the time to do so! As of April 1st, the $119.95 price will be gone forever. By waiting or continuing to buy a la carte, you will end up spending over $22 more per month ($10 on price increase + 12 for shippping). That's over $250 more per year! There is good news to this though! If you order before March 31, you will have the original price for LIFE! Great news is that if you are currently on a home direct order or you even purchase before March 31 with HD, you are locked in with the current price as long as you don't cancel!!
Why the price increase?
I do have to close on this one. Anyone that is familiar with P90X, Power 90, or even P90X2 has to love Tony Horton and his personality. He recently made this fun video showing the value of Shakeology! Check it out and did you know that Shakeology can also help you accelerate your results.

It's full of motivation and results that I personally have gotten from the different workouts I have tried.

- To counteract the rising costs of fuel, shipping, and ingredients
- So they can continue to offer FREE shipping on HD orders
- To preserve the integrity of their ingredients (rather than skimping or ordering from lower quality sources)
I do have to close on this one. Anyone that is familiar with P90X, Power 90, or even P90X2 has to love Tony Horton and his personality. He recently made this fun video showing the value of Shakeology! Check it out and did you know that Shakeology can also help you accelerate your results.
